We pass by the green oases of Skoura, a long palm tree grove with various kasbahs of which the Ouarzazate glaoui was the palace of the pashah of Marrakech.
This lush valley is called the valley of Roses because they abound and it was here that rosewater was created. Meet our team of mules and mule drivers and hike to our camp at the end of the plain where we may meet encamped nomads lodged in their goat skin tents and herding their animals..
Meeting with our mules caravan and start climbing an old trail passing by several centenary junipers and some areas of grassland. Reaching the plateau of Isk n'Alla (2500m), we cross pasture land with some rock huts where we might meet a lonely sheperd with his beasts. Then we descend towards our camping place by a stream in a very peaceful environment.
We climb gently to the top of the Kouaouch plateau. From here we will enjoy a spectacular view of the Saghro with its splendid rock formations: sheer cliffs, rock towers and very compact volcanic tables rising above the valley.
We descend between two imposing rock tables and will find several surprising rocks containing crystals in their interior. We pass by the great table Tassegdilt Tamajgalt where we will see the famous camel head. Camp by the tilled fields in Igli enjoying the panorama above us.
We trek along the gorges of Afourer enjoying the splendid view of its high rock faces that seem to have been cut vertically and displaying tubes and pitons. Pic nic at the natural pool by the village of Afourer.
We then follow by the tilled fields through a fascinating rock
panorama to our camping place in front of the great towers of
Bab n'Ali, Ali Baba's gate, at Ousdidene valley.We cross this valley's green fields and go between Babn Ali's imposing towers. Then continue along a dry riverbed through a odd geology of contortionated levels of volcanic masses.
We pass Amguis, a hamlet surrounded by fields, fruit and palm trees and will get to our camp on the next valley called Tifadassine.
We hike in the gorges that follow the river Assif n'Amguis till we reach the valley of Irrhazzoum n'Imlas, placed within very high tables. Soon we get to the village of Tiguiza surrounded by fertile land.
Then we follow the banks of the Taoudach river through the very long grove of palm trees that will accompany us almost all this leg.
Both banks are tilled with corn, barley, vegetables and fruit trees that grow under the shade of the palm trees. Further on the river banks become gorges and we end at Hanedour, a nice little village anchored on the cliff, where we meet our minibus and travel to Marrakech (7h); hotel.
Difficulty: Moderate (5-6h hiking per day).
